A Look Back

Time slips away yet memories linger. Remembrance of things past adds a feeling of immortality to the transient nature of things and beings. Small, insignificant details hold meaning when they appear out of nowhere in a dream. Using distinctive styles, Tafsia and Ananya’s paintings record bygone days, offering a contemplative visual experience for the viewer.

Tafsia’s paintings emerge gradually through drawing, mark-making and layering. They echo small details of everyday life and record distant moments, little stories and glimpses growing up in Bangladesh. At times, her paintings are like looking at one’s past through a dusty window pane. 

Ananya’s soft, ethereal paintings emerge through thin coats of paint that are translated into striking, bright colours. She slowly creates strange figures, faded forms and uncanny places that are derived from lived experiences and fond recollections from her childhood in India. 

Both painters are in their final year of BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at Leeds Arts University.
